Because most humans were religious. Religion in general started as a means to explain phenomena that people couldn’t explain at the time. People personified concepts like farming as well as worshipped obvious objects like the sun. And for the bulk of human history, polytheism and/or spiritualism have been much more prevalent than monotheism. So if we’re going with the “so many people agree” argument, then we should be worshipping what you’d consider pagan gods, not your one god.

When my dad was dying he was talking to his best friends little granddaughter who died of brain cancer and his brother than had passed a month before him. There is something beyond this that we can’t understand.
