Are you looking for new personal money management apps to try out in 2021? Let’s take a look at the top 5 tools I’ll be keeping an eye on this year.

With the new year now underway, I’ve been thinking a lot of finances – including what some of my favorite tools are for managing and making the most of my money. Moreover, as a fan of FinTech, there are definitely apps that I keep a closer eye on as I’m interested to see what they’ll do next. With that in mind, I wanted to highlight the top 5 money management apps to watch in 2021 and why I’ve enjoyed all of them so far.

The first pick on my list is a digital savings account with a fun twist and that’s Yotta Savings

Yotta is a gamified savings account that adds a lottery element to make things exciting. For every $25 you have in your FDIC-insured account, you’ll earn 1 ticket to each week’s contest. So, if you hold $2,500 in your account, you’ll have 100 chances to win each week. With another one of Yotta’s lottery numbers revealed each day of the week, the app does a good job at keeping savers engaged. Plus, with APYs currently quite low due to economic conditions, with some luck, you could end up doing better with yotta. Since opening my account last year, Yotta has already added a number of new features – most recently debuting a Ticket Pool PLay option. Therefore, I’m expecting some big things from them in 2021 and beyond.

Next, another app I’ve enjoyed using and will continue to utilize in 2021 is the banking automation tool Astra

While various accounts may offer some level of automation on their own, Astra is a third-party tool that gives you an even greater selection of options. For example, you can set-up a sweep routine that will move funds over a certain threshold to another account on a weekly basis. There are also savings challenges users can sign up for, transferring an increase amount of money to a savings account each week. I’ve actually been using Astra since I first reviewed it, relying on the sweep function to automatically move money to savings for me. Personally, I look forward to seeing what other tools and feature they can cook up in the year ahead.

Also on my list a lesser-known aggregation tool I came across a few months ago called Fion

There are plenty of account aggregators out there these days, from Mint to Personal Capital and others. While each of these offer plenty of features, sometimes it’s nice just to keep things simple. That’s why I was interested to discover Fion. Like with other options, Fion allows users to link accounts, enabling them to view all of their balances and transactions in one central place. The difference here is that’s currently about all that Fion does – which is actually kind of refreshing in my opinion. With a clean and visually pleasing interface, the service’s site is easy to navigate and use.

With cryptocurrency already enjoying some strength in the new year, I also have Fold on my list as an app to watch

Fold is an app that allows customers to purchase gift cards and earn a percentage of their transaction back in the form of Bitcoin. Needless to say, though crypto prices remain volatile, recent high-prices have likely made more consumers curious about Bitcoin’s potential. For them, the app offers an easy way to accrue small pieces of Bitcoin without the hazard of investing directly. Meanwhile, Fold is currently in the process of rolling out its own withdrawal card with additional benefits for shoppers interested in earning Bitcoin. As a beta user, I can say that this withdrawal does have pros and cons – but i’ll save those thoughts for a future review. In the meantime, I still expect Fold to have a pretty strong year if things keep up the way they’ve been going.

Finally, rounding things out is a service I only recently reviewed but think shows potential: Bella Loves Me.

It was a mere week or so ago that I shared a look at the new digital banking service Bella Loves me- or Bella for short. If you missed that review, the main concept of Bella is that, in addition to checking and savings account features, the app also allows users to add money to what they call a Karma account. Funds in your Karma account will then enable Bella to automatically comp random purchases from other users, thus making their day a bit brighter. But, on top of that, the app also issues what are called Bella Surprises, randomly giving customers between 5% and 200% cash back on select purchases they make with their withdrawal card. Bella also has a unique user interface that could frow into something special. Surely people will have questions about the long term viability of Bella Loves Me, but I’m definitely interested in their premise and will be along for the ride.
