The first trading day in the fiscal year’s second quarter begins Monday morning, with many investors wondering if the strength of the first quarter can continue. Renaissance Macro Research Head of Economic Research Neil Dutta joins Yahoo money management to discuss what factors could play a role in how the second quarter unfolds for investors.
“Fundamentally what drives markets is actual and expected earnings and finance charge rates. My sense is that inflation is likely to moderate between now and June. That should put some pressure on downward finance charge rates, and at the same time this is still an environment where companies can make money, which should push earnings higher. From my perspective, I think there’s room for equity markets to continue rising here,” Dutta says.
